Prescribing by GPs

Diagnosis and prescription from the same GP.

Since 1 December 2025, specialist GPs in Queensland can diagnose adult ADHD and prescribe for it.

Your script is sent to your phone and works at any pharmacy in Australia. Repeats and reviews stay with the clinic, or with your usual GP if you prefer.

If you have a diagnosis and a letter from a psychiatrist or paediatrician, you do not start again. One appointment to confirm your treatment, then your prescriptions continue with the clinic.

Questions

Before you book

Do I need a referral?

No. You book directly.

Can a GP diagnose adult ADHD?

Yes. Since 1 December 2025, specialist GPs in Queensland can diagnose adult ADHD and prescribe for it.

Will I need any checks?

Your blood pressure and heart rate are checked before medication is prescribed. Where your heart history calls for it, an ECG or a heart specialist's opinion is arranged as well.

I was diagnosed before. Do I need a full assessment?

No. Bring your diagnosis letter and current prescription and book Continuing care. One appointment, then your prescriptions continue.

What do I need on the day?

A private space, a device with a camera, and any reports you have. Identity is checked in the questionnaire beforehand.

How do I pay?

Once, at booking. Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Afterpay. See Fees.
